How Foot Lodge Country House was built in 1843 as a Victorian villa. It is now a guest house which has been run by Kate and Mike Metcalfe since 1999.

How Foot is situated only fifty yards from William Wordsworth's former home of Dove Cottage, which now forms part of a fascinating award-winning museum. Kate and Mike Metcalfe will be delighted to welcome you to their family-run guest house.

situated only five minutes away from the centre of picturesque Grasmere with its winding river Rothay, quaint shops, village green and 13th century St. Oswald's Church where William Wordsworth and other members of his family are buried in the churchyard.

Described by Wordsworth as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found," Grasmere is ideally situated for touring the whole of the National Park, with many famous walks beginning right from our doorstep. Helm Crag, Alcock Tarn and Easedale may be tackled by the energetic, Helvellyn, the Fairfield orseshoe and the Langdale Pikes are close by and there are numerous low level strolls nearby, including footpaths beside Grasmere and Rydal Lakes.
